Many visitors to Anglesey are surprised by how Welsh it is; the county has one of the highest numbers of people who speak Welsh, particularly amongst the younger generations.
Everyone understands and speaks English and most people you come across will automatically speak English to you.
However, it’s polite to have a few Welsh words up your sleeve, so, here it goes (bear with me, I’m an English girl – still learning too!)
“helo” hello
“bore da” good morning
“pnawn da” good afternoon
“diolch” thank you
“os gwelwch yn dda” please
Most residents will embrace your attempts at pronunciation, even if it’s a little off, so don’t be afraid to give it a go.
